I do know that plenty of portable media players from China and Taiwan (those generic models that come with different names) do ship with an NES emulator that let’s you play hundreds of gaming classics from the 8-bit era, but most of the time the processor in those portable media players aren’t up to snuff, and your Mario will probably suffer from lag as well as dropped sounds. Heck, I’ve even seen him enter a transparent pipe before due to poor coding! The latest device to ship with an NES emulator is not a portable media player but a cellphone instead.

I wonder what Nintendo’s legal eagles have to say about this, but just pause and think for a moment - you have an entire back catalog of NES games in the palm of your hand, and there is no need to make space in your attic to store hundreds of game cartridges nestled within their boxes! To play, just turn this cellphone sideways and let the landscape format draw you into a world when 2D ruled and 3D graphics were far too primitive to be engaging.

If you’re not satisfied with such a tiny screen, there is hope for you. This handset even comes with a TV-out port that lets you play on a big screen TV, although 8-bit graphics will definitely look absolutely rubbish on your spanking new HDTV. Not too sure what happens when you get an incoming call while you’re busy trying to obtain all the pieces of the TriForce though. The list of features doesn’t stop there - a digital camera is even thrown into the fray. Just remember that downloading NES ROMs is an illegal act, so if you want to get your NES fix legally, buy a Wii and download those Virtual Console titles or scour eBay for a working NES. Chances are this phone won’t even make it to the US anyway.
