IOGear has recently announced the Vista Smartlink USB adapter for those who are planning to do a whole lot of data transfer from computers running different operating systems, namely Windows XP and the recently launched Windows Vista. Especially designed to work with Windows Easy Transfer, the Vista Smartlink USB Adapter boasts a USB 2.0 host-to-host link adapter that lets you transfer files and settings from an existing computer running on Windows XP/Vista to a new Vista-powered computer without going through the hassle of installing additional software and bogging down your system with yet more drivers. Some of the transferable items include user accounts, files, and program settings without the need to have a middleman data storage solution.

The Vista Smartlink USB adapter offers full compliance with USB Specification Versions 2.0 and 1.1, supporting a theoretical data transfer rate of up to 480Mbps for speedy transactions. Not only that, you get suspend and resume power management features that go a great length in helping keep power costs down - just imagine everyone using this on a large scale as the invididual effort might seem futile in the beginning.

Either USB port will be able to power the Vista Smartlink USB adapter, making this suitable for both notebook and desktop users in a small office or home environment. The product page mentions that the Vista Smartlink USB adapter will be released in a couple of weeks’ time, retailing for $29.99 a pop. Sounds like a pretty affordable solution, don’t you think?
