OH MY GOSH, MAN, DON’T CUT YOUR WRISTS! LOOK, IT’S NOT WORTH IT! JUST PUT THE KNIFE DOWN, AND WE’LL TALK, OKAY? WE’LL TALK. PLEASE?

Seriously, this article has nothing to do with cutting yourself, but it is about preventing yourself from being cut. Yes, this article is all about the gloves. Kevlar gloves, to be exact.

These particular Kevlar gloves are made from lightweight 7-gauge Kevlar, which is just good enough to shield the hands from scrapes and cuts. Considering that Kevlar is good enough to stop bullets, your hand should be safe from any sharp edges.

These gloves can be “worn by themselves or as liners”. I don’t really have a lifestyle that would be in need of Kevlar gloves, but if I were say, a knifethrower, Kevlar gloves would be completely practical.

If you ask me, I believe these Kevlar gloves should be mandatory for all teachers of Shop class. I mean, those stories about their missing fingers are legendary. Maybe they should make these Kevlar gloves in Juvenile sizes and make all the students wear them.

Perhaps you’re in a similar profession that should require Kevlar gloves, like being a butcher, for example. If so, feel free to go to the SkyMall site and put down $19.98.

Trimble has rolled out its Copernicus II GPS receiver that ought to see action in many a miniaturized gizmo in the near future. After all, it shares roughly the same measurements as the average thumbnail, being a surface-mount, high sensitivity module. Some of the major advancements found in the Copernicus II receiver include the ability of signal tracking for applications functioning despite being in poor signal environments and a high-sensitivity stationary timing mode for time synchronization. Thanks to its higher sensitivity, performance and faster startup times, the Copernicus II GPS module allows system integrators to add Global Positioning System (GPS) capability to a mobile device with minimal impact on its size or battery life without breaking the bank, and these savings will also be passed down to consumers which is always a good thing considering the global credit crunch at this point in time.

The Copernicus II GPS module is a complete, ready-to-go receiver that provides position, velocity and time data. The receiver features Trimble patented software technology that provides faster startup times and even higher performance in foliage and urban canyon environments. Compatible with active or passive antennas, the Copernicus II GPS receiver can be used in portable handheld, battery-powered applications such as Bluetooth appliances, sport accessories, personal navigators or cameras, computer and communication peripherals as well as vehicle tracking, navigation, and security products.

The Copernicus II GPS receiver will come with version 3.0 firmware, allowing it to generate position fixes with high accuracy in extremely challenging environments and under poor signal conditions, even down to -160dBm. This GPS receiver won’t consume much power at all, where a typical session takes just 120 milliwatts at full power with continuous tracking. Trimble is expected to release the Copernicus II GPS receiver sometime in the third quarter of this year.

I know that my data needs to be secured, which is why I have a variety of security measures in place. Of course I rarely have top-secret information that I take with me on the road, but if I did, I would make sure that I had an external drive which was well protected. This DataLocker would be one good way of doing just that.

Rather than taking the route of dealing with security measures from Windows (or whatever OS you’re using), it is simply locked down by a 6-digit code which you input on the small touchscreen. Without the proper code, you can be sure that your data is perfectly safe and locked away.

The DataLocker is a bit steep at $100 for the enclosure (you’ll need to supply your own 2.5” SATA drive), but at least you’ll know that everything is safe and sound. Of course I’d think that for $100 they could at least make it look a little nicer.

LG and Samsung will propose their jointly developed technology as the North American technology standard for mobile DTV. Samsung and LG held a signing ceremony at Seoul Plaza Hotel in Seoul, Korea, on May 14, 2008. At the ceremony, the two companies agreed to cooperate in order to assure rapid adoption by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) of a single common in-band mobile DTV standard.

Technology for the jointly proposed system will reflect the findings of the IDOV (Independent Demonstration of Viability) conducted by the Association of Maximum Service Television (MSTV) on behalf of the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC). A report on IDOV will be submitted by the OMVC to the ATSC.

“LG and Samsung are already world-class in digital TV and mobile communications, said LG President and Chief Technology Officer Woo Paik. “Through this collaboration, we also have an opportunity to lead the North American mobile DTV market.”

Added JongWoo Park, President of Samsung Digital Media Business: “Our collaboration on North American mobile DTV standardization will help accelerate the ATSC standardization of mobile TV technology, which will benefit both consumers and broadcasters.”

ATSC is expected to adopt the mobile/handheld DTV standard for the North American market in early 2009 following trials of the technology by the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC), a group of leading U.S. broadcasters who are vigorously promoting the development and early deployment of mobile DTV.

I can’t wait until we find ourselves a new power source that will make us all less dependent on oil. I also can’t wait for battery and/or fuel cell technology to get better so that we can have longer-lasting mobile devices. One product that would benefit from a better fuel cell is your vacuum.

Sure, that’s not the first thing that comes to my mind either, but if this concept were brought to life, it would make sweeping the carpet a much easier task. It always seems like they make the power cords way to short, which means you’re always running around trying to find the most efficient power outlets in house so you need only plug it in a few times. This BakVac would certainly eliminate that particular issue.

There are people who tend to over water their plants, but more importantly most people do not give enough water. The Thirsty Light Blinks helps solve this dilemma by letting your “plants” speak with you. This unique detector is a digital moisture meter that uses a patented process that interpret readings it obtains from the soil, offering you a (claimed) more precise measurement of the potting medium’s dryness, unlike other detectors that are readily available in the market. You will know when it is time to bust out that dusty watering can by seeing whether it blinks or not. for those who do not have green thumbs and literally need a signal whenever their plants get thirsty.

Casio’s Baby G line has been around for donkey years now, and it looks set to stay for a long time moroe. There is a new release in this ladies’ range, and they are part of the BG-2000/2001 series which are not only meant to be easy to use but fashionable and funky at the same time. While it will fall short in terms of specifications compared to its G series predecessors, at least it looks good enough to warrant a purchase. Ah, if only the dollar isn’t in a free fall at the moment - so many new shiny toys to buy, yet so few dollars to splash around. Bummer.

Greystripe has announced another Tier-one game publisher deal to distribute free mobile games from Sega. Three classic game titles from the Sega collection will be delivered across mobile phones worldwide through all 50 of Greystripe’s Catalog Platform partners in addition to GameJump.com. Additionally, Sega will monetize their mobile game content via Greystripe’s AdWRAP advertising network, which includes brands like Diet Coke, Yahoo!, New Line Cinema and eBay.

To launch the partnership, Sega and Greystripe are launching three popular mobile games:

Sonic Jump - Go vertical with Sonic the Hedgehog. Play through familiar fast-paced action with an addictive new style as Sonic jumps from platform to platform in a race to stop the evil Dr. Eggman.

Afterburner II - A classic Sega arcade favorite, players can use their mobile phones to jump into the cockpit of a fighter jet and combat swarms of supersonic enemy fighters.

Golden Axe - In the epic “side-scrolling beat ‘em up” Golden Axe, choose one of three powerful heroes to embark on an adventure to save the land of Yuria from the evil forces of Death Adder!

“Sega has selected to be a part of the Greystripe’s distribution network of sites as it opens up the category to a whole new market of consumers,” said Linda Chaplin, VP of Mobile at Sega. “The ‘free games’ proposition allows consumers to try mobile games without risk and we’re confident that our brands and commitment to quality will convince consumers to stay and continue gaming on their mobile phones.”

Greystripe’s AdWRAP technology enables advertisements to be wrapped directly with mobile games and applications without any complex coding and development for the content owner. AdWRAP provides game publishers, Web and mobile media portals, and carriers with an additional source of revenue, while simultaneously building customer retention and loyalty.
